Core Components of the Service
Family Service and Children's Aid Society provides school and community-based Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) prevention and education services. These programs are designed to reduce individual and environmental risk factors and to increase protective factors.

Project Alert is an evidence-based program that addresses the pro-drug mindset of today's teens and effectively increases their likelihood to remain drug-free. The program is available as requested by the local school districts.
Too Good for Drugs
Too Good for Drugs is an evidence-based prevention program designed to reduce risk factors and enhance protective factors related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use among students. The curriculum is designed to develop five essential life skills:
- Goal setting
- Decision making
- Bonding with pro-social others
- Identifying and managing emotions
- Communicating effectively
This program is currently offered to the fifth graders in the local school districts.
On Applebee Pond is a research-based curriculum consisting of puppet scripts that focus on self-esteem, drug and alcohol information, and social skills. Student mentors from the high school are trained and present the program to elementary students. The program is available as requested by the local school districts.
Tobacco Education Program
The Tobacco Education Program (TEG) is a 7-session readiness for tobacco cessation program specifically designed for students in grades 6 to 12. It is a highly interactive and effective program which can be implemented in a support group setting. TEG is an alternative to suspension for tobacco possession on school grounds. It is offered as requested by the local school districts.
Tobacco Awareness Program
The Tobacco Awareness Program (TAP) is a tobacco cessation support group program for smokers and chewers that have proven effective at reducing the rate of teenage tobacco users in a school setting. TAP is a voluntary program. This program is also offered as requested by the local school districts.
Summer Community Activities
Summer community activities include crafts, snacks, and drug and alcohol prevention in Venango County neighborhoods. Activities have been provided at:

- Cooperstown Church
- Evergreen Arbors
- Oakhill Apartments
- Siverly Hot Spot
- South Side Playgrounds
- Southside Hot Spot
The prevention program offers outreach services to individuals with high risk for contracting communicable diseases resulting from substance abuse and injecting drug use. The purpose of this outreach is to inform and then to encourage healthy decision-making, including the decision to enter treatment.
Presentations & Community Activities
The prevention program also offers presentations and community activities for the purpose of increasing public awareness about problem and compulsive gambling. Programs include:
